Tuesday 30th March
We are finally in a position to say lets go racing again! Confirmation from our local authorities received today means we can go ahead and hold our first trials meeting this Sunday 4th April. As with the meetings held during 2020 there will be strict guidelines in place that must be adhered to so that we remain covid-secure and can start racing again. For the time being entry will be to fully paid-up members and we will not be allowing spectators in the field on the day of race meetings. All entrants will need to be pre-booked in advance and will receive a copy of our guide to safe racing at Andover prior to the meeting. As we are expecting a good entry please express the type of trial you wish your dogs to be entered for, e.g. short or full distance, traps or slips, solo or multiple, if you would like your dog to put into a multiple trial please also supply their weight. For this week only as we are late advertising please ensure that your entries are to our Secretary Darcia by 9pm on Thursday. All entries in writing via email or messenger. We cant wait to welcome you back to our club!

Friday 8th January 2021
May we start by hoping that you have all had a peaceful Christmas and are keeping safe and well and by wishing you a Happy New Year.
Looking back at 2020 it was an extremely difficult time for us all but we were pleased to be able to hold some race meetings and opens for our members and ensure that the whole year was not written off. Thank you to you all for your support and for abiding by the rules so that these were able to take place. Thanks also to the hard work by the committee in ensuring this was possible. It was fantastic to be able to provide opportunities for the pups and young dogs to get trialling and so pleasing that we were able to hold a number of successful clearing trials. We had a great response to our opens and it was lovely to see some of our club dogs having success not only at Andover but down in Cornwall too, congratulations to them all. At the same time we raised £800 from the running of the opens which was particularly important as we were unable to hold as many meetings as usual or hold a weekly raffle.
At the present time we are unable to hold an Annual General Meeting so in the interim we hope that you will be happy for our current committee to stay in place, all current committee members are happy to stay in position with a few job role changes. Sarah Puxty is to take over the role of Race Manager with Daniel Bremner becoming assistant race manager. Today we held a committee meeting and discussed a few key items so that we can start planning ahead for the 2021 season, in summary these are:
* We will return to racing as soon as we are able to, we will continue to be guided by the latest updates from the Government and as soon as restrictions are reduced we will be ready to start
* Race fees will be maintained at the current price (£2.50 per dog per meeting) however there will be a minimum charge of £2.50 for attendance and a maximum capped at £12.00. Puppies will be free up to the point that they require the traps at which point normal trials fees will apply.
Finally a few plans in the pipeline, the first of which is to replace the fencing on both tracks - our current fencing has been used for many years and we feel it is time to replace it with something that will be safer for the dogs running, we are also in the process of purchasing a newer mower to ensure that the tracks and field stay in tip top condition. Looking further ahead we also need to start to make plans and think about the Clubs 50th Anniversary which will take place in 2022!
We look forward to welcoming you back to the club at some point in the hopefully near future and welcome any further comments and suggestions.
Best wishes,
The Andover Committee

Looking forward to racing this Sunday (2nd April). A few polite requests to all of you who are joining us. Please could you promptly pay Sara on arrival in the field and ensure that you stick to the order of trials as shown on the programme. With a few committee members absent we would be most grateful for some help setting up and packing away. Finally, to help ensure that we have enough line judges to cover the racing we are now reverting to the old Andover system where the owners of 3 dogs trialling/racing on the day will be chosen to cover the finish line, the names of which will be listed on the programme each week via rotation. I will aim to ensure that this always includes an experienced member to support anybody that has not line judged before. Many thanks in advance for your cooperation.

We are holding a club meeting this Sunday 5th March (weather permitting). Please see event details for information on how to book in and how we are planning on running the meeting. All dogs to be booked in by 9pm on Wednesday to allow a programme to be prepared. Dogs must be on the programme if you want them to run. Look forward to seeing everyone after our long winter break!
EVENT DETAILS on Facebook
This Saturday the 18th February we will be holding a work party at the track to do some maintenance on the sand finishes and get everything ready for the new season. If all goes well (weather permitting) we hope to be able to have our first meeting the following Sunday. But, as many hands make light work we would really appreciate some help! Please join us on the field from 9-9.30 on Saturday morning and bring along a shovel and a rake if you have them. Please let us know if you can make it so we know how many to expect.

We held our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 15th January at the Theale Club near Reading, it was good to have such a great turnout of members. The full Minutes are available to download under the Club Information and Downloads tab but in summary, there were a few changes to the committee with our long standing Chairman Dougy Hood and Race Manager Andy Alford standing down and Steve Miller and Jade Dallimore replace them on the committee. This has brought about a shuffle amongst our other positions. Steve Evans has kindly volunteered to take on the position of Chairman with Steve Bryant taking over as Race Manager. Jade will take over as Assistant Secretary and will also be Trophy Steward looking after all club trophies, Sam will take over the running of the weekly raffle and Patrick Browne will become Assistant Race Manager to support Steve. A big thank you to Dougy, Andy and Sue (who has recently retired from running the weekly raffle) for all of their help and guidance and for doing such a brilliant job over the years. The good news is that we are not saying goodbye as they will all still be racing at the club and Dougy has kindly offered to continue as Groundsman. It was reported that the Club had a successful 2016 with a healthy bank balance and good numbers attending both club meetings and opens. The introduction of the Racer's group at our Autumn open had been well supported and would be repeated this year at both opens. Official business included a review of race days and discussion over how we can make the trials run more smoothly and get more people involved with helping out on the day. We congratulated the Annual League winners for 2016 and presented the owners with velvet jackets and trophies, these were Dougy and Steph with Glory Road who won the Dogs League, Steve who Apache Gold who was Top Bitch and Top Newcomer, Pat with Mr Cooper who won the Veteran League (sadly she was unable to attend so will receive her trophy and velvet jacket when we return to racing) and Trevor with Ebony Express who won the Racers League. Unfortunately due to the saturated ground a start date for racing is not yet available, but the situation will be reviewed and we will inform you via this website and the Facebook page as soon as it is possible to have a meeting.

This Sunday 6th March we will be running a trials meeting. However to try to organise things a bit better than last week we will run to a printed programme with all trials being pre-booked. When entering confirm if you want to put your dog into mixed trials with other dogs or wish to run on your own. We will commence with the multiple trials at 11am with the solo runs to follow and will follow the order listed on the programme. As we are potentially expecting a bumper turn out like last Sunday, please ensure that you have booked in by 9pm on Wednesday to allow the programme to be put together. Thank you & here's hoping for some warmer weather than last week!
We are intending to hold a work party at the track this Sunday to carry out some essential maintenance work before the season gets under way.
There will also be the opportunity to run a few trials, however these will be hand slips only as we do not want to use the traps.
Please meet at the track between 9.30-10.00 am. With the weather forecast very changeable we will check the situation on Saturday but if you are in any doubt contact Dougy to confirm.
We held our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 24th January at the Ambassador Club in Tadley, it was good to have such a great turnout of members. The full Minutes are available to download under the Club Information and Downloads tab but in summary, there were a few changes to the committee with Angie Sawyer, Alan Foster and Jeff Allan standing down and Sam Bristow, Pat Browne and Andy Browne replacing them. As most of you are probably aware, Sam has taken over as Trophy Steward looking after all club trophies, Steve Bryant has become Assistant Secretary and will be organising the Club Points Leagues and John Fitzgerald will become Assistant Race Manager to support Andy. It was reported that the Club had a successful 2015 with a healthy bank balance and good numbers attending both club meetings and opens. The introduction of the Racer's group had gone down well and would be repeated this year with the hope of encouraging more non-race bred racers to the club. Official business included a review of the points scoring for club meetings and updates to our Rules of Racing and Constitution (a copy of which are also available on our Club Information page). We congratulated the Annual League winners for 2015 and presented the owners with velvet jackets and trophies, these were Sam and Pete with Whitby Jet who won both the Newcomers League and Racers League, Tina and Colin with Shadow who won the Veteran League once again, Angie and Mike with Savernake Sporting Gun who won the Bitches League and Rob and Darcia with Duncton Dark Knight who won the Dogs League. Unfortunately due to the saturated ground a start date for racing is not yet available, but the situation will be reviewed and we will inform you via this website and the Facebook page as soon as it is possible to have a meeting.

Dont forget that we host the charity open on Easter Sunday and the closing date for entries is the 27th March ************************************************************************************** As we had to postpone last week's meeting (22nd February), scoring for all leagues will begin this Sunday (1st March). ************************************************************************************** The club are pleased to announce that from the first official race meeting of the season we will be introducing a new league for Non-race bred racers. We have long wished to do more to accommodate the show bred dogs that attend the club and finally have the numbers required to warrant their own group. Whenever possible they will run together but if there are not enough entered then they will run against the race bred dogs on a handicap that will make them competitive and points scored will go towards their own league. The winner of which will receive a velvet jacket and trophy kindly donated by current club members - more details to follow. *********************************************************************************** Our Annual General Meeting took place today (Sunday 11th January) at the Ambassador Club in Tadley. At the meeting our long standing Secretary Rob Sweet stood down, all at the club would like to thank Rob for his hard work as Secretary over the years and are pleased that he is to continue to have an active role in the club and will be remaining on the committee. We would also like to say thanks to Chris and Sarah Button who continued as Trophy stewards for the last year despite not being able to attend race meetings due to a change in job, the open trophies have received much praise over the last couple of years and we hope to see Chris and Sarah back at club one day in the future if circumstances allow. Darcia Gingell will be taking over as Secretary and entries should now be made via phone 07846 757000/01249 821369 or via email darciagingell@aol.com by the wednesday prior to the meeting. Steve Bryant and Steve Miller both join the committee the rest of which has remained unchanged. ************************************************************************************** Congratulations to the following members dogs who were finalists at the Fourth National Championships of 2014 held on 12/10/2014 at Andover. To do this we need to raise @ £1000 to cover the hire of a digger and materials. To this end we are looking to our members for help; we are going to be fund raising through a number of events and activities over the remainder of this season (ideally we need to get the pit dug before the weather turns bad and the ground gets wet towards the end of the year) Some of our members have already kindly offered to make a one off donation towards the cost of this project, if you are in a similar position and would like to help then we would welcome donations of any amount (large or small - every penny helps!). We are also planning a fund raising day where all proceeds will go towards the project - this may take the form of a mini open with a dog show and tombola. If you have any ideas or suggestions of how we can make this day a success - or have any other fund raising ideas then we would love to hear from you. ************************************************************************************ Racing plus picnic this Sunday 15th June The forecast for sunday is sun, sun and more sun so we are going to have a picnic after racing. Please bring along a plate of food that you are willing to share. Dont forget to bring the sun hat and shades! ********************************************************************************** Congratulations to Tanzanite Boy a.k.a Charlie owned by Lorraine and John Fitzgerald who was awarded the title of Whippet News Top Trainer for 2013. Huge thanks to Doug, Andy, John, Jeff, Steve and Darcia for all of their hard work. ********************************************************************************* The sand arrived today (Friday 7th February) and Doug, Sarah and Chris made a great start on moving the sand to the pit. As there were worries over whether the lorry would get stuck in the field the sand had to be dropped at the corner of the car park at the entrance to the field. Working hard shovelling the sand into wheel barrows and then taking it over to the track the trio did an excellent job and half filled the pit. A big thanks to Doug, Sarah and Chris for all of their hard work today. ***************************************************************************** The sandpit being has been dug today (Saturday 1st February). Next Saturday 8th February we are organising a work party and we would like as many members and friends as possible to come along and help spread out the sand so that we can get racing on it as soon as possible. Please arrive at the track from 8am. A big thanks to Doug, John and Andy for giving up their Saturday to get the pit dug and thanks to John for the photos. ************************************************************************ We are pleased to announce that the club will be installing a sand pit finish to our 150 yard training track to enable us to extend our club racing season. As you are all aware we have come along way since our move to the new track but the fact that the area was a ploughed field a short time ago means that it is taking time for us to get the grass in the tip top condition that we require it to be in to play host to our opens and National Championship meetings. Doug and the team continue to work hard to ensure an even and suitable running surface for all racers but with the wet weather at the end of 2013 and rabbit damage, there were concerns about the grass on the finish. To overcome this (and with the fact that the ground can get very hard in the summer) it was decided at the AGM to introduce a permanent sand finish to our shorter 150 yard track, this will ensure a safer finish for runners and give time to allow the grass to continue to improve on the longer 180 yard track. On Saturday 1st February the pit will be dug with the sand arriving shortly after, with the weather on our side we hope to be back club racing within a few weeks and will be able to welcome you all to our new facility. We thank Mick Hinson and others for their guidance and support as we investigated the possibility of the sand finish. *************************************************************************** Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Sunday 12th January at 12o'clock in the Ambassador Club in Tadley. All items for the agenda to our Secretary Rob on 01256 470835 All welcome ********************************************************************* The draw has been completed for our open next Sunday and we have a good entry of just under 100 dogs. If there is anyone willing to help out with a spot of line judging, paddock or anything else, then please do get in touch. ********************************************************************** Congratulations to Andy & Linda with Another Millworth and Jane with Quiver - both winners at the North West Championships held on the 28/7/2013 ***************************************************************************** Congratulations to the following members dogs who were finalists at the Third National Championships of 2013 held on 21/7/2013 at the Independent WRC. ******************************************************************************* Good news! Thanks to the fantastic support and hard work of the members that have turned up over the previous two sundays to prepare our second track and our Chairman Dougy who has been at the field not only then but much of this week aswell, ensuring that it is fit for the dogs to run on, we are now ready to recommence racing. This sunday we will just be holding a trials meeting, but the traps will be available to put together some multiple trials as needed. We will also be holding a raffle, so please bring along a prize and some change to buy some tickets. Please arrive between 10 -10.30, look forward to seeing you there! All welcome. **************************************************************************** Once again we are asking for your assistance to help prepare the second track for club racing while we maintain the main track for the upcoming open season. To this effect we will be holding another work party this coming sunday (3rd February). Remember to wear warm clothes and bring along tools and something to kneel on. Meet at the track from 10am. ************************************************************************* This weeks planned work party (20th Jan) has been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions and snow. We hope to go ahead as planned next weekend if the weather improves. *********************************************************************** News from our AGM 13/1/2013 Full minutes from the AGM will be available in due course but news in brief: * Current committee all re-elected with Dougy to continue as Chairman, Rob as Secretary, Sara as Treasurer and Andy as Race Manager * New traps are in the process of being made and will hopefully be ready for when we host the Charity open in March * The existing track needs preparation in order for it to be in tip top condition for the one charity open, two club opens and three National Championship meetings that will be held on there this summer, we therefore need to put all our efforts into preparing a second track that we can use alongside the main track. To this end we are asking all club members and friends to join us the next two sundays to help pick stones and prepare it for racing. The track has been roped off all season so has a good covering of grass and has been rollered, with your help we hope to be ready to commence club racing on it on Sunday 10th February * Velvet jackets and trophies were presented to Top Bitch 2012 Doolally, Top Dog 2012 Duncton Spirit of the Wind, Top Veteran 2012 Summa Breeze and Top Newcomer 2012 Duncton Spirit of the Wind *************************************************************************** Reminder that it is our AGM this weekend - join us at the AMBASSADOR CLUB, HANGAR ROAD, TADLEY, HAMPSHIRE RG26 4QQ on Sunday 13th January 2013 at 12pm.
